Munich Re has announced the appointment of Klaus Wilkens as the new president and CEO for Munich Reinsurance Company of Canada and Temple Insurance Company, the reinsurer’s agency affiliate in the country.
An experienced leader with a strong mix of market facing strengths, people leadership skills, and technical underwriting skills, Wilkens will be responsible for the operation of all of Munich Re’s non-life business in Canada.
With the Canadian insurance and reinsurance market facing numerous challenges, Munich Re noted that Wilkens is poised to lead the company’s efforts in identifying and capitalising on new business opportunities.
Having joined Munich Re in 1995, the executive has a strong track record of building sustainable relationships with clients and brokers.
His first role in the company was as an underwriter in Casualty Facultative. He then joined Munich Re of Africa in 2000 and later returned to Munich as the Senior Underwriter for customised reinsurance solutions.
In 2008, Wilkens assumed the role of Client Management Executive, leading the Client Management team for Non-Life reinsurance business in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries.
Wilkens’ promotion follows another high-profile appointment for the reinsurer. In early March Munich Re HealthTech (MRHT), a subsidiary of Munich Re, announced the promotion of Bilal Ramadan to Chief Executive Officer.
Ramadan will be responsible for driving the strategy of Munich Re HealthTech to strengthen its position as a software technology provider in the health insurance industry.
