Applied, PartnerRe join on aerospace program

Applied Underwriters Inc. has joined with the former PartnerRe Ltd. direct and facultative space underwriting team, led by industry veteran Jon Lewis, to launch an aerospace program.

Applied Underwriters Aerospace, based in Washington, will tap into market opportunities as private sector activity in the aerospace sector increases, the Omaha, Nebraska-based insurer said Monday.

The venture will continue to offer traditional launch and in-orbit policies while also providing coverage for the expanding aerospace sector, Mr. Lewis, senior vice president and head of Applied Underwriters Aerospace, said in the statement.

Applied subsidiary North American Casualty Co. is the issuing insurer, while PartnerRe will provide treaty reinsurance for the business.
