Allianz UK appoints Akhil Lalwani as Chief Data Officer amid data function overhaul

Allianz UK, part of the global financial services provider Allianz Group, has appointed Akhil Lalwani as its new Chief Data Officer (CDO).

The move follows the company’s decision to create a centralised data function, aimed at aligning its data strategy across key business areas. Lalwani will report to Fergal Coburn, Chief Operating Officer.

In his new role, Lalwani will oversee the Data Centre of Excellence, which includes teams responsible for data strategy, privacy and governance, architecture, engineering, and business intelligence.

Lalwani brings experience from previous roles at firms including Barclays, BT, and most recently Convex Insurance, where he served as CDO. Prior to that, he was Head of Data Platforms at Prudential, focusing on digital and customer initiatives.

Coburn said: “I look forward to welcoming Akhil to Allianz UK. He joins my leadership team at an exciting time as we look to drive further innovation and value by centralising the data function. He is a proven leader and champion of how data strategies can drive customer outcomes. I know with his experience and passion he will be an asset to our data teams and the wider organisation.”
