Aon appoints Dan Hartung as Global Head of Event Response for Risk Capital

Aon, the global insurance and reinsurance broker, has announced the appointment of Dan Hartung as the Global Head of Event Response for Risk Capital, effective immediately.

With nearly 15 years of expertise in meteorology and catastrophe analytics, Hartung will oversee Aon’s event response operations.

His role will focus on enhancing the company’s ability to deliver timely and actionable insights to insurance clients, improving their readiness and response before, during, and after natural disasters.

Additionally, Hartung will work to expand the provision of real-time information to commercial risk clients, fostering a more data-driven and anticipatory approach to risk management.

Hartung’s team will take charge of assessing industry exposure and estimating the financial impact of major natural catastrophe events worldwide.

They will leverage Aon’s proprietary technologies as well as collaborations with third-party partners to provide comprehensive insights. This includes utilising automated event response tools, industry exposure datasets, and insured and economic loss data sourced from Aon’s Catastrophe Insight team.

Furthermore, Hartung will play a key role in launching a new event analytics platform later this year. The platform will offer detailed visualisations of natural catastrophe events, enable risk assessment at portfolio and individual location levels, and deliver personalised alerts designed to meet client requirements.

Paul Shedden, Head of Risk Capital Analytics at Aon, added: “Natural catastrophe events are inherently complex, resulting in substantial economic losses, including $125 billion already in 2025. Accurately assessing their impact requires synthesising data from a wide range of sources.

“By enhancing our event response capabilities, we’re uniting Aon’s expertise to provide clients with a single, integrated view of risk. We’re pleased to have Dan lead this critical function, helping clients navigate volatility, strengthen resilience and make more informed decisions.”

Tracy Hatlestad, Global Head of Property Reinsurance at Aon, said: “As property insurers face increasing pressure to manage catastrophe risk with speed and precision, Aon is committed to delivering timely, data-driven insights that support better decisions—from claims response and reinsurance recovery to internal reporting.

“Dan’s deep expertise in catastrophe analytics and his proven ability to lead through complexity make him the ideal person to guide this effort. His leadership will be instrumental in expanding the reach and impact of our event response capabilities across the insurance sector and beyond.”

Hartung will continue to operate out of Aon’s Baltimore office as he leads these efforts.
