Arch Re promotes Soares, Jal and Seyller to key leadership roles

Arch Reinsurance Group (Arch Re), the reinsurance arm of Arch Capital Group, has announced the promotions of William Soares to President of Arch Re Ltd.; Pierre Jal to President of Arch Reinsurance Europe Underwriting dac (Arch Re Europe); and David Seyller to Chief Underwriting Officer of Arch Re Europe.

As President of Arch Re Ltd., Soares will assume functional responsibility for operational departments such as finance and legal, in addition to his current underwriting duties.

Soares joined Arch Re in October 2006 as an Underwriter for Casualty & Specialty and has since held roles of increasing responsibility, most recently serving as Chief Underwriting Officer, Casualty and Specialty. He began his career at EY as an Audit Manager, Audit Senior.

In his new role, Jal will oversee the company’s underwriting mandate and strategy, as well as the reinsurance lines of Arch Syndicate 1955 at Lloyd’s.

Jal joined Arch Re Europe in 2007 as an Underwriter/Actuary and has held senior underwriting roles at both Arch Re Europe and Arch Re Ltd. He most recently served as Chief Underwriting Officer of Arch Re Europe, a position now assumed by Seyller.

Prior to Arch, Jal held various positions at SCOR, Gecalux, and Gerling Globale Re.

As CUO of Arch Re Europe, Seyller will lead the property and casualty, agriculture, and structured underwriting teams in Europe that previously reported to Jal.

He most recently served as Deputy CEO of Axeria, where he worked for the past four years. Before that, he spent eight years at Arch Re Europe, most recently as Senior P&C Underwriter. Seyller also held earlier roles at Milliman and Generali.

Soares and Jal will report to Jerome Halgan, President and Chief Underwriting Officer of Arch Reinsurance Group. Seyller will report to Jal.
