Ascot announces key promotions in UK Claims

Ascot, a Bermuda-domiciled global specialty insurer, has announced the promotion of James Short to Chief Claims Officer, UK, and Christine Neale as Head of Claims Operations, UK.

In his new role, Short will be responsible for the Syndicate Claims function, including claims disputes and the oversight and control of all outsourced adjusting providers.

Short has been part of Ascot since 2007, having initially joined as Claims Manager for Syndicate 1414.

Over his 18-year tenure at the company, he has held a number of positions at the company, rising to Director of Syndicate Claims Operations in 2022.

Throughout this time he has been instrumental in driving UK claims operational success, managing numerous significant market losses across various business lines.

Short’s career began in 1996 as a London market claims broker after earning a master’s degree in marine law. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the International Association of Claims Professionals and has represented Ascot on various LMA groups and committees.

As the new Head of Claims Operations, UK, Neale will be managing all aspects of the Syndicate Claims operations and assisting the Chief Claims Officer, UK in overseeing the claims service provided.

Neale joined Ascot in 2023 as Delegated Underwriting Claims Manager for Syndicate 1414. In this role, she has played a key part in developing the company’s delegated claims management approach and framework, strengthening partnerships with Ascot’s global claims partners.

With nearly 20 years of experience in the Lloyd’s market, including a decade managing claims operations, Neale has held increasingly senior claims and operational roles at Brit Insurance, AmTrust Lloyd’s, and DTW1991.

“Optimised claims handling and management is critical to fulfilling our promise to our clients: to be there when they need us most. In these new roles, James and Christine, equipped with technical expertise, organisational knowledge and extensive experience in the Lloyd’s market, will be key to positioning Ascot claims as a long-term market leader,” an Ascot spokesperson stated.
