Aspen executive Jonny Atkinson dies

Longtime Aspen Insurance executive Jonny Atkinson died Wednesday at age 57 after a brief illness.

Mr. Atkinson joined Aspen in 2011 and held various executive roles, including being named head of insurance London in 2019. He was named chief distribution officer in August.

Mark Cloutier, executive chairman and group CEO of Aspen, said in statement: “Jonny was not only a talented executive but a dear and valued friend to many across Aspen and beyond. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and the lasting contributions he made.”

Mr. Atkinson began his insurance career in London with brokerage Johnson & Higgins, which was acquired by Marsh in 1997. In 2000, he joined Jardine Lloyd Thompson and moved to its Bermuda office in 2002. In 2005, he joined Willis as an executive vice president.

Before his insurance career, he played cricket for the English county of Somerset.
