Axis names group chief underwriting officer

Axis Capital Holdings said Tuesday it has promoted Dan Draper to group chief underwriting officer.

Mr. Draper, who is based in London, previously served for more than two years as group head of underwriting for the Bermuda-based insurer and reinsurer. He will report to Axis President and CEO Albert Benchimol.

In this new position, Mr. Draper will guide the centralization of the company’s underwriting analytics and support functions into a single division that he will oversee.

Axis earlier this year announced its intention to appoint a global chief underwriting officer as it restructured its leadership and exited the property reinsurance business. A series of management changes saw Axis Re CEO Steve Arora leave the company. Ann Haugh, previously president of Axis’ global property division, took over the role of CEO of the reinsurance unit.
