With ChatGPT rapidly becoming one of the main channels from where people around the world seek information online, BBVA has been investigating how it can tap into the resource to connect with users.
Recently, OpenAI introduced the concept of third-party apps to ChatGPT. Although they are not yet available in the EU, the Spanish banking group has taken the initiative and built an app that will enable people to obtain information about offerings such as account conditions, types of cards, or savings products, simply by asking questions in natural language.
The initial version of the app is designed to handle informational queries about BBVA’s products and services in Italy and Germany.
Over time, it is envisaged that the experience will evolve into a “digital companion,” says the bank.
Murat Kalkan, global head, digital banks, BBVA, says: “Bringing BBVA into ChatGPT will mark the start of a new chapter, one where AI becomes part of everyday banking, helping customers navigate their financial lives in a more natural and intelligent way.”
BBVA has been working with OpenAI since last year, with 11,000 licences have been deployed across the Spanish bank. Over 80% of users use the licenses daily and report saving nearly three hours per week on routine tasks.
