Belgium’s Ethias Group launches reinsurance entity Ethias Re

Benoît-Laurent Yerna, Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and Board Member of Belgium domiciled insurer Ethias Group, has revealed that after months of work, Ethias Re, the firm’s brand new reinsurance company, has officially launched.

Ethias Group is more than a century old and has two main headquarters in Liege and Hasselt, with over 40 offices across Belgium.

The insurer offers solutions for individuals and local authorities and businesses, and beyond insurance, the Group provides services such as pensions, IT, leasing, assistance, and more.

Today, in what he describes as another major milestone for the Ethias Group, CRO Yerna confirmed the launch of the Group’s reinsurance arm, Ethias Re.

Yerna will serve as Chairman of the Board of the new reinsurer, and is joined by Thomas Canor as Managing Director, who joins from KPMG Luxembourg, and also Luc Boghe and Philippe Bonte as Independent Non-Executive Directors.

Ethias Re is a “bold response to climate challenges and new risks,” according to Chairman, Yerna.

“The world is changing and so are the challenges. That is why we have decided to appropriate issues such as extreme weather events, digital risks and the changing reinsurance market to better manage them.

“Ethias Re embodies our desire to anticipate, to innovate and create tailored solutions to meet the long-term needs of our clients and partners.
