Berkshire Hathaway Specialty names casualty, construction leaders

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Co. Thursday named Matt Hale to the newly created position of head of U.S. casualty underwriting operations.

Chicago-based Mr. Hale previously managed the insurer’s U.S. Central division casualty team.

The insurer named Chicago-based Marcie Stephan, a senior vice president, head of casualty, U.S. Central region. She will oversee all Berkshire Hathaway Specialty’s casualty teams in the region, except construction, the insurer said in a statement.

New York-based John Roe, who was previously head of Eastern region, casualty, was named head of North American construction, including construction casualty, construction professional liability and homebuilders liability.

The three executives all joined Berkshire Hathaway Specialty shortly after the insurer was established in 2013.
