Bill plans to use livestock grazing to lower wildfire risk

The U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources Thursday passed a bill to use livestock grazing to reduce wildfire risk.

H.R. 1110, the Grazing for Wildfire Risk Reduction Act, requires the Secretary of Agriculture to develop and implement a strategy to increase opportunities to use livestock grazing as a means of wildfire reduction.

“By utilizing grazing as a tool for wildfire risk reduction, we can make our forests healthier and more resilient,” Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-California, said in a statement.

An identical provision was included in the Fix Our Forests Act, which passed the House Jan. 23.
