Bill would extend COVID-19 presumption for frontline workers

Vermont lawmakers have proposed an extension of the state’s temporary COVID-19 workers compensation presumption law for frontline workers, which is set to expire Friday under a law that was signed by Gov. Phil Scott in July 2020.

S.B. 9, introduced Tuesday, would extend the presumptions for first responders and health care workers, among other subsets of workers detailed in S.B. 342 in 2020, to July 1.

This bill also proposes to extend until that date the Commissioner of Labor’s temporary authority to waive or amend certain workers compensation-related deadlines and requirements during a state of emergency related to the pandemic.
