The California Workers’ Compensation Institute has named Gideon Baum to succeed Alex Swedlow as president.
Last year, Mr. Swedlow announced he would be stepping down after a 37-year career with CWCI.
Mr. Baum, who formally joined Oakland, California-based CWCI last year as chief operating officer, focusing on internal operations, public policy research, and representing the organization’s members, was vice president of policy at the California Hospital Association from 2021 to 2024.
Prior to CHA, Mr. Baum served as a committee consultant of the California State Senate Committee on Labor and Public Employment, where he was “closely involved with the creation and passage of significant workers compensation legislation,” including S.B. 863, A.B. 1124, which established a worker comp formulary bill, and the 2016 anti-fraud bill package, A.B. 1244 and S.B. 1160, according to CWCI.
