Carbon Underwriting forecasts £400m GWP from Syndicate 4747 & 5757 in 2025

Carbon Underwriting, an independent managing general underwriter, estimates nearly £400 million in gross written premiums (GWP) under management in 2025 from its Syndicate 4747 and its newly launched Syndicate 5757.

The launch of Syndicate 5757, the MGA’s vehicle for its strategic expansion into the US market, marked a significant milestone in Carbon’s expansion plans and underscores the company’s commitment to growing its footprint and leveraging the vast opportunities in the country’s insurance sector, Active Underwriter Rob Crocker commented around RVS 2024.

“We’re thrilled about the launch of Syndicate 5757, which is set to write £119 million GWP in 2025 with a stamp capacity of £90 million,” Crocker stated.

Adding: “We’re projecting to have nearly £400 million GWP under management in 2025, combining Syndicates 4747 and 5757.”

“Our tech and data-driven approach, powered by Graphene’s proven success in our growth journey so far, gives us a distinct advantage in the US market. Graphene enables rapid and efficient data handling, leading to superior underwriting performance and operational efficiency.

“This technological edge allows us to identify and capitalise on opportunities in the US market with greater speed and precision. We believe that this focus on technology and data will be key to attracting high-quality US programme business, and we’re confident that Syndicate 5757 will be a success.”

Graphene will be central to Carbon’s growth strategy, Crocker noted, as it will enable them to scale the company’s operations efficiently while maintaining underwriting excellence.

He explained: “[Graphene’s] ability to revolutionise underwriting processes through rapid data handling and advanced analytics gives us a competitive edge. This technological advantage enables us to scale our operations efficiently while maintaining underwriting excellence, especially as we expand into the US market.

“A key development to Graphene is that we are bringing its utilisation forward in the underwriting process. The platform is now used to manage the pre-bind underwriting process, not just post-bind, offering a cradle-to-grave service. Graphene’s ability to harness machine learning pushes it to a best-in-class data system. We believe that Graphene will be a key differentiator for us in the US market, and we’re excited to see how Graphene continues to help us to grow our business.”

Carbon anticipates substantial growth in 2025, Crocker stated, with its ability to attract, retain and nurture top talent being key for the company’s success. The MGA plans to hire over 30 new employees in 2025.
