Ryan Specialty, a global specialty insurance firm, has announced the appointment of Chris Newby as General Counsel of Ryan Specialty International.
Newby succeeds Carin Verhagen, who has served in the role for 12 years and will retire at the end of February 2025.
In his new position, Newby will be based at the company’s international headquarters in London.
Mark Katz, General Counsel of Ryan Specialty, commented, “Chris brings a wealth of international legal experience to Ryan Specialty. We welcome not only his acute legal acumen and talented executive leadership skills, but also his deep knowledge of the UK and EMEA landscapes as we look to expand Ryan Specialty International deeper into these geographies.
“Ryan Specialty’s culture is built on teamwork, empowerment, inclusion and meritocracy and Chris has embodied these values throughout his career. We are very excited to have Chris joining the Ryan Specialty team.
“We would also like to express our enormous appreciation to Carin for her extraordinary commitment and contributions to Ryan Specialty. Carin joined Ryan Specialty International twelve years ago when it was still a fledgling enterprise and has been critical in leading it from infancy to the formidable business that it is today. She is simply one of the most talented attorneys with whom I have had the pleasure of working. Carin has been an invaluable colleague, mentor and friend to so many and we wish her the best of everything.”
Newby brings over 25 years of industry experience to his new role, having spent 19 years at AIG, where he most recently served as General Counsel for the UK and EMEA. Before AIG, he worked for eight years at Norton Rose Group.
