The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed suit Tuesday against a Maryland staffing agency, charging it with discriminating against female workers in its work assignments.
The agency said Hanover, Maryland-based Green JobWorks LLC has refused to hire or assign female workers for demolition and laborer positions because of their sex.
The EEOC also charges that Green JobWorks has regularly assigned workers to its business customers using sex-based criteria provided by the customers, and asked whether the customers preferred workers of a particular gender.
The agency said Green JobWorks has also told female workers who contacted it for employment that the company was only seeking to hire men for certain positions and assignments.
EEOC is charging the company with violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The company’s attorney did not respond to a request for comment.
