Employers of adult entertainers will face new safety requirements including panic buttons and improved security measures, the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries announced Tuesday.
S.B. 6105, signed into law in March, mandates that starting Jan. 2, 2025, employers must install and maintain accessible panic buttons in bathrooms, dressing rooms, and each room where entertainers could be alone with customers and secure dressing and locker rooms with a keypad requiring an entry code.
Security guards must also be present during operating hours, according to the regulations.
Establishments must also maintain a list of customers who’ve allegedly committed sex trafficking, prostitution, promotion of prostitution, and acts of violence against entertainers and ban those customers from the establishment for three years.
Employers must also train employees other than entertainers to minimize unprofessional behavior by workers in adult entertainment establishments and enable them to support the entertainers in times of conflict. Establishments must also have in place reporting procedures for complaints.
The regulations also include pay requirements such as eliminating “unfair financial systems.”
