Teams from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana; the Institute of Insurance and Risk Management in Hyderabad, India; and the University of Wisconsin-Madison will make their final presentations today as they compete to win the Spencer-RIMS Student Risk Management Challenge.
For the winning team, it will be the culmination of a seven-month contest among 244 students from 61 universities worldwide.
The teams conducted a risk analysis and compiled a risk assessment report for a climate risk case study focused on Huntington, West Virginia. The students were challenged to identify the risk’s impact on the city, develop recommendations for addressing it, and determine the key strategies for effectively implementing their proposed solutions.
After the first round of judging, eight teams were invited to present at Riskworld on Sunday. Those teams, in addition to the three picked to make final presentations, were from:
· Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia
· Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal
· University of New South Wales in Sydney
· University of South Africa in Pretoria
· University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg
The three finalists will give their final presentation today at an open session for all Riskworld attendees, and the winners will be announced at the Spencer Soiree at the Hyatt Regency starting at 5 p.m. today.
The first-place team prize is $10,000, the second-place award is $7,500, and the third-place award is $5,000.
