Lloyd’s global insurer and reinsurer, MS Amlin, has announced that Christiern Dart will take over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company in January 2026, succeeding Andrew Carrier who has decided to retire from the role after three years.
Dart spent 17 years at specialty insurer Brit, including five years as Group Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), overseeing an underwriting capacity of over £2 billion across a multi-line portfolio.
While at Brit, Dart rose through the business with periods initially as Deputy Active Underwriter for Syndicate 2987, then Active Underwriter for both Syndicate 2987 and 2988. He began his Brit tenure underwriting its North American property and casualty portfolio, a responsibility he also held previously at Liberty Syndicates and CNA Re, where he began his underwriting career in 1994.
All in all, Dart brings more than 30 years of industry experience to his new role as CEO of MS Amlin.
He takes over from Carrier, who has served as CEO since 2022, but has chosen to retire from the role but will remain within the wider Mitsui Sumitomo (MSI) group as an Executive Officer. In this capacity, Carrier will provide counsel and insight to the MSI executive team as it continues to expand in international markets.
Carrier will remain with MS Amlin until the end of 2025 to support a smooth transition and regulatory handover.
“I am delighted to announce Christiern’s appointment as MS Amlin’s new CEO. His leadership and strategic approach at Brit clearly demonstrate his talent, and I speak for the Board and the broader executive team in MSI, when I say how excited I am for him to start his new role with us and take the company to the next stage of its development,” said Shinichiro Funabiki, President and CEO of MSI.
“I must take this opportunity to thank Andrew for everything he has achieved during his tenure with us, from 2020 as CUO, and particularly the last three years as CEO. He brought a renewed underwriting discipline to the business that has left such a positive mark on our company consciousness that his presence will be felt long after he moves into his new role as Executive Officer for MSI. In this new role, we know Andrew’s deep professional expertise, along with his sincerity, honesty, and genuine compassion, will continue to bring value that is rare in today’s world. We look forward to seeing him thrive in this next chapter of his career with us,” added Funabiki.
Dart said: “I’m so excited to make the move to MS Amlin, and to continue the excellent work of the entire business. MS Amlin is such a well-respected name in the market, and with the unmatched support of MSI and the wider MS&AD group, I know exciting opportunities and times lie ahead for us all.”
