After a career of over 47 years, James Vickers, Chairman of reinsurance broker Gallagher Re’s International division, is to retire on May 31, 2025.
In a new statement, Gallagher Re noted that Vickers has been an “ever-present” leadership figure, providing support for the firm’s Japanese and International clients in the aftermath of natural catastrophes, de-tariffication, international expansion and more.
According to Gallagher Re, Vickers has also been a key driving force behind the development and expansion of its International platform across Asia, EMEA and Latin America.
“From the early days of catastrophe and actuarial modelling in the 1990’s James played a major role in supporting the build-out of Gallagher Re’s analytical capabilities and fostering relationships with academia to bring better risk insights to our clients,” the reinsurance broker said.
The firm continued, “He has represented Gallagher Re and the reinsurance industry in the trade press as well as numerous trade bodies and conferences advocating the wider societal role of reinsurance through public-private partnerships in addition to acting as a commentator on the highs and lows in the global reinsurance market.
“He has been a mentor to many leaders both in our business and externally and his dedication, hard work, and kindness have left a lasting impact on everyone around him.”
For those unaware, Vickers spent over 40 years with WTW in a variety of senior roles, later joining Gallagher Re through the sale of Willis Re.
Speaking with Reinsurance News in our first video interview, Vickers observed that after the January 1st renewals, reinsurers are well placed, but the question for companies for the rest of the year is what they can do about growing their premium volume or achieving targets.
