Henry Nelson named Liberty Specialty Markets CUO for the UK & MENA region

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has appointed Henry Nelson as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for the UK & MENA region, effective January 1, 2025.

According to the announcement, Nelson will begin transitioning into his new role over the coming weeks, working alongside current CUO Mel O’Neill, who is set to retire at the end of this year.

In his new role, the executive will lead underwriting strategies within the region, with a focus on driving profitable growth, cultivating a high-performance culture, and ensuring the region’s operations are equipped to navigate future industry challenges.

Nelson’s experience spans various classes of business, including Marine and War & Terrorism.

He has been with Liberty for over 11 years and has significant cross-functional experience, holding several key roles across the business. Since 2022, Nelson has served as Chief of Staff, following his role as Head of Portfolio Management for London and Global Products.

Prior to Liberty, Nelson was part of Aon’s Crisis Management team in 2016.
