Total insured wind and flood losses from Hurricane Helene will be between $10.5 billion and $17.5 billion, according to a report Monday from data and analytics company CoreLogic Inc.
This estimate includes some $4.5 billion to $6.5 billion in losses to the National Flood Insurance Program.
These estimates include wind loss and inland flood loss for residential and commercial properties across 16 states, including damage to residential, commercial and industrial buildings and their contents. The losses also include damage to automobiles.
Damage to personal marine craft, offshore infrastructure, governmental structures and infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, is excluded.
Flooding drove the bulk of the insured losses, estimated between $6 billion and $11 billion, while wind losses are estimated to be $4.5 billion to $6.5 billion, according to CoreLogic.
The storm is also estimated to have caused an additional $20 billion to $30 billion in uninsured flood losses, the report said.
“The fact that so much damage was concentrated outside the Special Flood Hazard Areas makes it challenging to realize the full extent of impact to uninsured homeowners,” Jon Schneyer, director of catastrophe response at CoreLogic, said in the report.
