ICEYE expands constellation with four new SAR satellites

ICEYE, a provider of satellite-powered disaster management solutions, has launched four new synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites, further expanding its constellation to enhance data granularity and increase the frequency of analysis for its clients.

Operating the world’s largest constellation of SAR satellites, ICEYE can image any location on Earth under any environmental conditions, day or night. This capability provides precise, near real-time insights to its government and commercial clients.

The satellites, built by ICEYE in Finland and ICEYE US, were integrated by Exolaunch and successfully launched aboard the Transporter-11 Rideshare mission with Space X from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

This launch includes the first ICEYE satellite mission for Bayanat, a leading AI-powered geospatial solutions provider, and Yahsat, the UAE’s flagship satellite solutions provider.

Rafal Modrzewski, CEO and Co-Founder of ICEYE, commented, “With frequent and steady deployment of new satellites into the ICEYE constellation, we are making progress towards our vision of improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.

“The powerful and capable satellite constellation ensures fulfilling our commitments to working as a trusted partner with a growing number of governments and commercial industries to deliver timely, accurate, and actionable insights for faster and better decision-making. We are proud to launch the first ICEYE satellite for our customer Bayanat and Yahsat and look forward to continued successful cooperation on their missions.”

Eric Jensen, CEO of ICEYE US, added, “We are pleased to add more next generation, U.S.-manufactured satellite capacity to the constellation. This further strengthens our capabilities to serve our customers with actionable data and insights.”

Stephen Lathrope, Senior Vice President, Solutions at ICEYE, highlighted the significance for the insurance sector, stating, “The growing scale, frequency and complexity of natural catastrophes is making the management of extreme events much more data reliant with instant access to on-the-ground loss information critical to a rapid and effective response.

“The announcement of the expansion of ICEYE’s satellite constellation means we are better able to deliver improved granularity of data and frequency of analysis to enable insurance companies to understand the immediate impact of a flood or wildfire – night or day, in all weather conditions, through smoke, anywhere in the world.

“ICEYE is unique in its ability to manufacture and operate SAR-enabled NewSpace satellites. By delivering an entirely new level of persistent monitoring to insurance companies for any location on the planet, we can ensure almost uninterrupted visibility on a catastrophic event for its entire lifecycle.”

The previous launch in March 2024 successfully deployed three new satellites into the constellation.
