Personal information from more than 16,000 injured workers in Washington state may have been exposed in a ransomware attack, the Washington Department of Labor and Industries revealed Thursday.
Pacific Market Research, a contractor of L&I, recently had its servers encrypted by an unauthorized party. Its servers held contact information, claim numbers and dates of birth for 16,466 workers who had workers compensation claims in 2019.
Although the contractor does not believe that information was compromised in the ransomware attack, L&I is notifying workers by mail and offering 12 months of free credit monitoring to each of the workers whose information was on the server.
