HDI Global, a commercial and specialty lines insurer, has reorganised the management of its HDI Enablers division appointing Eric Joly-Pottuz to manage the Paris-based Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) unit.
Etienne de Varax, who managed the unit since its establishment in August 2022 with Joly-Pottuz as his deputy will retire at the end of 2024. He will continue to support the company as a Senior Advisor until he retires.
Joly-Pottuz commented: “With HDI Enablers, we are complementing the HDI Global alternative risk transfer offering to corporations and providing our customers with access to innovative risk solutions that are perfectly tailored to their individual needs. Our goal is to help companies optimally manage their risks and strengthen their competitiveness.”
Joly-Pottuz will lead HDI Enablers and focus on further developing its innovative services and opening up new markets.
“Our core business is in Europe, but at the same time we’re also open to expand our business beyond. Potential markets such as the US and Asia are of interest to us. Malaysia, for example, is currently becoming a big domicile for captives. We are in contact with our connections there to determine whether or not there’s an opportunity for us to go further,” said Joly-Pottuz.
The executive brings extensive industry experience to his position, having began his career at the AXA Group and has held various management positions at HDI Global since 2016.
Dr. Thomas Kuhnt, Member of the Executive Board at HDI Global SE, added: “In a world where risks are becoming increasingly complex, we find innovative ways to provide our customers with the best possible support, including ways that go beyond traditional insurance solutions. With Eric Joly-Pottuz, we have an experienced expert at the helm of HDI Enablers who will take our ART offering to a new level.
“We would like to thank his predecessor Etienne de Varax for his successful commitment in developing the unit into an important player in the field of alternative risk transfer in Europe within two years since its foundation. I am pleased that he will remain with the company as Senior Advisor until the end of 2024 before taking his well-deserved retirement.”
