In a move to help communities prepare for climate-related disasters, catastrophe modelling software company KatRisk is bringing its advanced flood modelling software to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
The company’s probabilistic models will provide crucial insights into the growing risks of both inland flooding and tropical cyclones.
KatRisk, acquired by Technosylva last year, stands out due to their high-resolution and physically-based approach, the firm highlighted. It utilises 30m resolution hydrologic and hydraulic models, providing granular flood insights for Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
This level of detail allows our clients to analyse location-specific risks, crucial for a peril as variable as flooding.
Furthermore, its 50,000-year event catalogue is enhanced by incorporating sea surface temperature data. This creates explicit correlations between tropical cyclone and non-tropical cyclone precipitation, and captures relationships with climate indices like El Niño/La Niña.
KatRisk’s inland flood model also prioritises client control and customisation by allowing users to adjust vulnerability factors based on their own claims data and expertise.
From vulnerability curves to defence assumptions and exposure characteristics, the firm is able to provide the flexibility needed for actionable risk assessments.
Finally, KatRisk emphasises efficiency, thanks to the company’s best-in-class computational speed and accessible automation tools. This allows clients to quickly and confidently gain insights into their flood risk and make informed policy decisions.
“By expanding our inland flood model to these crucial regions, KatRisk is not just responding to a need for better risk management tools; we are actively participating in building more resilient communities. Our technology is a testament to our values: innovation, precision, and a relentless commitment to serving our clients with the best in catastrophe risk modelling,” KatRisk concluded.
