Leavitt Group unit sues former broker, Alliant

A Leavitt Group unit said in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court in Helena, Montana, that one of its former brokers and Alliant Insurance Services Inc. are wrongfully using proprietary information and trade secrets, causing it to lose “substantial portions” of its business.

Leavitt Great West Insurance Services LLC alleges Krysta Theriault violated an employment agreement she signed in June 2016 barring her from taking and using confidential information when she resigned in May 2024 to join rival Alliant. The case is Leavitt Great West Insurance Group v. Krysta Theriault et al.

Leavitt said Ms. Theriault has not returned the information despite numerous requests and that she and Newport Beach, California-based Alliant are using marketing leads, sales and commissions data, and other documents to interfere with its customers and business relationships.

The Montana unit of Cedar City, Utah-based Leavitt Group said Alliant “encouraged and participated in” Ms. Theriault’s breaches of her employment agreement.

Leavitt accuses Ms. Theriault of breach of contract and both defendants of violating the Defend Trade Secrets Act and Montana Uniform Trade Secrets Act.

Representatives for the parties did not respond to requests for comment.
