Markel hires former insurtech leader for specialty retail role

Markel Corp. on Tuesday named former insurtech leader Jim Hinchley as chief retail officer for its specialty division.

He succeeds Sarah Gavlick who recently left the company to join Jencap Group LLC. Boston-based Mr. Hinchley will report to Alex Martin, president of Markel Specialty.

Mr. Hinchley most recently was president of insurance at Fairmatic, a commercial auto insurtech managing general agency. Prior to that, he held various leadership roles at Farmers Insurance Group and Liberty Mutual Insurance Co.
