Markel Insurance appoints Christian Stobbs Chief Strategy and Corporate Development Officer

Markel Insurance, the insurance division of Markel Group Inc., has announced the appointment of Christian Stobbs as Chief Strategy and Corporate Development Officer.

In this newly created position, Stobbs will lead efforts to identify and pursue strategic initiatives that support growth across Markel’s insurance operations.

Stobbs will be based in the US and will report directly to Simon Wilson, Chief Executive Officer of Markel Insurance.

“I’m confident that Christian’s proven leadership successes and his more than 17 years of insurance and financial services industry experience will unlock even greater opportunities to help Markel Insurance to win,” added Wilson.

Stobbs began his journey with Markel in 2015 as Strategy and Development Executive, where he established the strategy function for Markel International.

A year later, he became Managing Director of Abbey Tax (now Markel Tax), where he shaped a strategy that positioned the company as the UK’s leading provider of tax fee protection insurance.

In 2019, he was appointed Managing Director of the Asia Pacific region, where his leadership helped drive substantial growth under the Accelerate Asia Pacific initiative. Since then, gross written premium has grown by approximately 600%, profitability has improved, and the regional workforce has nearly tripled.

Effective July 14, Sucheng Chang has succeeded Stobbs as Managing Director, Asia Pacific.
