Markel names strategy and corporate development officer

Markel Insurance, a unit of Markel Group Inc., on Tuesday named Christian Stobbs chief strategy and corporate development officer.

Mr. Stobbs will report directly to Markel Insurance CEO Simon Wilson and focus on identifying strategic growth opportunities in the newly created role, based in Richmond, Virginia.

Mr. Stobbs previously was managing director, Asia Pacific. Under his leadership, since 2019 the business saw a 600% increase in gross written premiums, improved underwriting profitability and nearly tripled its employee count, Markel said.

Sucheng Chang succeeds Mr. Stobbs as managing director, Asia Pacific.

Mr. Stobbs joined Markel in 2015 as a strategy and development executive.
