Massachusetts lawmakers are considering legislation calling on employers to create plans for workers exposed to hot temperatures.
Settling strict guidelines for what would constitute extreme indoor and outdoor temperatures, S. 1355 would require that employers display thermometers in work areas, provide rest and water breaks and access to shaded areas, supply personal protective equipment, implement engineering controls, and set vehicle standards to protect workers.
The bill, which now sits with the Senate Joint Labor and Workforce Development Committee, also calls on emergency response procedures and annual updates to plans.
