MS Re adjusts leadership within underwriting operations

Global reinsurer MS Reinsurance (MS Re) has made numerous leadership changes to its underwriting operations in certain regions and also announced structural adjustments within the Americas, International, and Global Specialty Lines business units to ensure teams are more directly connected to their clients.

Specifically, the reinsurer will organise its specialty offering under a Global Specialty Lines umbrella, including Engineering, enabling the firm to concentrate on the unique needs of these business lines.

At the same time, the reinsurer explains that its Americas and International P&C offering will be further aligned to client types to deepen client understanding.

In light of this, Joerg Bruniecki will transition to the role of Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), Global Specialty Lines, from CUO, International. Charles Goldie, Group Chief Underwriting Officer at MS Re, has held the role on an interim basis for the past 18 months, in addition to his Group CUO role.

Additionally, Andy Hottinger, previously Head of Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) P&aC, will be promoted and succeed Bruniecki to lead the International team as CUO, International. Meanwhile, Louis de Segonzac will continue in his role as CUO, Americas.

Within the Global Specialty Lines business, Paul Murphy has been promoted to lead a dedicated Financial Risks team, which will be responsible for the Global Credit, Surety, Political Risk, and Mortgage business.

MS Re will also establish a Specialty Property team, led by Andrew Shaw, who was previously Head of US Property. This team will manage MS Re’s Global Engineering business and other Specialty risks, including Complex Industrial and Corporate risks. Rinat Bektleuov will continue to lead the Agriculture business, explains the company.

Within the International business arm, David Raich has been promoted to lead the European Mature Markets team, and Luciano Castagna leads Growth Markets. Asia Pacific (APAC) and International Complex Cat will be led by Phil Froncioni, and International Casualty, MGA, and Non-Standard Solutions will be led by Stefan Behr.

Lastly, in the Americas business unit, Joe Banker will lead the Regional Client team, and Maria Amelio will oversee two teams: National Carriers led by Jerry Farrell, and MGA/Program business led by MJ Chapleau. Lucas Castagnino will continue to lead the Latin America and Caribbean team, with no change to the structure.

Goldie commented: “These changes will build on our success to date and put us in a position to continue growing our business in the future. Over the past three years, we have nearly doubled the size of our business by focusing on the key needs of our clients and being a reliable and consistent partner for our brokers and clients.

“We have built a team of strong, disciplined underwriting professionals who are known and trusted in the market and a well-diversified portfolio consistent with our strategy. These changes more closely connect our structure to our clients, to serve them in the most straightforward way to support them in the challenges they will face in the coming years.”

“Our approach to the reinsurance business is quite simple – understand our clients well, provide solutions that make their business better and be easy to work with. We’ve done a great job on this to date, and these changes ensure that we continue to build on this success in the future,” he added.
