Lawmakers in New York will again consider legislation that would allow survivors of those who died of COVID to file for workers compensation death benefits.
Similar to a bill filed in 2024 that failed to advance past introduction, A.B. 8408 would allow for the reopening of claims for COVID-19 death benefits for families of those who were considered essential employees, per the state’s executive order during the pandemic, from March 2020 to June 2021.
The bill, slated to be introduced Wednesday, would clear red tape for previously denied death benefits claims.
