Former workers compensation administrator Stephanie McCloud has been promoted to director of the Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced Thursday.
In 2019, while serving as administrator and CEO of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, Ms. McCloud was named one of Business Insurance’s Women to Watch.
“Director McCloud understands how state government operates, and she knows how to get things done. She’s a collaborator. She has the management and administrative expertise we need in these challenging times,” Gov. DeWine said at a press conference Thursday. “She has the experience necessary to lead the department as it carries out its vitally important health functions, while at the same time battling this pandemic.”
Before her role as the head of the state’s comp administration, Ms. McCloud was a staff attorney at the BWC.
She replaces interim director of health Lance Himes, who temporarily took over after former director Dr. Amy Acton stepped down in June amid public criticism over the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
