A bill in Ohio would impose a $50,000 fine on municipalities that deny firefighter workers compensation claims for occupational cancer that are ultimately accepted in court.
S.B. 241, filed Wednesday, amends state law on firefighter “hazardous duty” cancer claims that already requires employers to cover attorney and court fees for unlawfully denied claims.
The penalty would be paid to the firefighter.
