Pacific Life Re boosts growth & innovation agenda with several appointments

Pacific Life Re has revealed a series of strategic leadership appointments to strengthen its global growth and innovation agenda, including the naming of Andrew Murphy as managing director of the newly established Capital Solutions line of business.

Murphy, who has reportedly managed the Europe and North American protection teams for the last 18 months, will now be based at Pacific Life’s headquarters in Newport Beach, California.

Here, Murphy will oversee global client relationships and drive growth in this expanding market.

Meanwhile, Sarah Cheng will succeed Murphy as managing director, Europe and North America.

Cheng, who joined Pacific Life Re in 2016, holds more than 20 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry.

To support Cheng, Mala Thurston has been promoted from vice president, Client Solutions, Protection, to head of Protection, Europe.

According to Pacific Life Re, Thurston will be responsible for the protection business written in Europe and will have reporting lines from the various teams in that region.

“Since joining Pacific Life Re in 2016, she has played a pivotal role in strengthening client strategy, growing market presence, and achieving commercial success across the UK and Ireland,” the firm added.

In North America, Cheng will reportedly be supported by Brett Laker, who will take on the role of vice president, Client Solutions for Protection in North America.

Laker joins from Pacific Life Re’s insurtech business, UnderwriteMe, where he led the business’s North American expansion.

At the same time, Scott Hunt, the current director, business development, will replace Laker and be responsible for UnderwriteMe’s proposition in the North American market.
