Renewal rates down across nearly all major commercial lines QoQ: Ivans

Ivans, a division of Applied Systems, has released its Q2 2025 results for the Ivans Index, showing that the average premium renewal rate change across nearly all major commercial lines, except General Liability, decreased compared to Q1 2025.
However, year over year premium renewal rate changes for all major commercial lines of business, except Workers’ Compensation, have increased.
In Q2’25 Commercial Auto’s average premium renewal rate was 8.43%, down from 9.24% in Q1’25. The quarter saw its highest rate change in May, averaging 8.45%, and its lowest in April at 8.41%.
BOP saw an average of 7.87%, a decline from 8.56% in the previous quarter. Its highest rate change was in April at 7.98%, and the lowest was in June at 7.74%.
General Liability averaged 4.66%, up from 3.95% in Q1’25. The highest rate change occurred in May at 4.86%, and the lowest was in April at 4.33%.
Commercial Property averaged 7.89%, a decrease from 8.57%. The highest rate change was in June at 8.19%, and the lowest was in April at 7.70%.
Umbrella experienced a slight decrease in Q2’25, with a rate change of 9.07%, down from 9.26% in Q1’25. The quarter began with the highest rate change in April at 9.41%, and reached its lowest rate in June at 8.69%.
Workers’ Compensation premium renewal rate change averaged -1.75% in Q2’25, down from -1.51% in Q1’25. The quarter saw its highest premium renewal rate change in June, averaging -1.61%, and reached its lowest rate of -1.87% in May.
Kathy Hrach, senior vice president of Product Management at Ivans, said, “Similar to last quarter, premium renewal rates decreased for nearly all major commercial lines during Q2, continuing the trend of a slowly softening market after several hard market years.
“The Ivans Index will continue to deliver insights into the longevity of these decreases as we see how macroeconomic trends and severe weather events will influence rates.”
