Riverstone appoints Enstar’s Brockman as Group CEO, to succeed Tanzer

Paul Brockman has been appointed as the new group chief executive officer of RiverStone International Holdings, succeeding Luke Tanzer who will be retiring later this year.

Additionally, the company also announced the appointment of Andrew Creed as group president, in addition to his responsibilities as group chief financial officer.

In a statement the board of Riverstone said: “The board would like to thank Luke for his enormous contribution as group CEO of RiverStone over the past 16 years from its time as part of the Fairfax Group and then as an independent company since the change in ownership to funds managed by CVC in 2021.

“During his leadership the group has grown from a UK-focused business into a global leader in non-life run-off insurance, while maintaining the strength of its culture and focus on relationships with all stakeholders.”

Since 2010, RiverStone has acquired $17.7 billion in gross liabilities across 47 transactions. The group’s 2024 results showed an adjusted profit before tax of $300 million, representing a 19.1% return on opening adjusted tangible book value.

Brockman brings over 30 years experience in the legacy sector, working across the US, London, Bermuda and international markets. He is expected to start his new role in January 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

The executive is joining RiverStone from the Enstar Group where he has most recently served as group chief commercial officer. He held a number of roles during his tenure at Enstar, including group chief operating officer, group chief claims officer and CEO of both Enstar’s US and European businesses.

Creed, currently the group chief financial officer, will be promoted to group president. With over 12 years at RiverStone, he has been crucial to its expansion, serving as finance director, group chief financial officer, and CEO of its UK and Lloyd’s operations.

Preben Prebensen, chairman, said: “I would like to add my congratulations to Luke for everything he has achieved at RiverStone. He is retiring with the business in a very strong position, and it will be in very good hands with Paul and Andy and the rest of the executive team going forward.”

Tanzer added: “It has been a privilege to be part of RiverStone’s incredible journey over the past 27 years and to have led the company for the past 16 years. I am extremely proud of what we have achieved which is down to all the hard work of the fantastic team at RiverStone.

“I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Paul who is an inspired choice as our next CEO, as well as my deepest congratulations to Andy who has been a brilliant partner over the past 12 years. Together I’m sure Paul and Andy and the rest of the team will take the company forward to new heights of growth and success in the years to come.”
