Ruth Farrugia named Chief Investment Officer at Resolution Life

Global life insurance group Resolution Life has announced the appointment of Ruth Farrugia as Chief Investment Officer, who will succeed Karl Happe as part of a planned transition.
Farrugia, a senior finance executive with over 20 years’ experience in the asset management sector, is joining the company from MetLife Investment Management where she was Global Head of Insurance Asset Management.
In this role, the executive was responsible for the execution of investment strategies for the MetLife general account and development of strategic solutions for insurance company third party clients.
Before joining the MetLife Investments division, Farrugia served in several roles, including Head of EMEA Portfolio Management and Head of Investments for Western and Central Europe.
Farrugia will be succeeding Happe, who was fundamental in initiating and building Resolution Life’s relationship with Blackstone and leading the repositioning of the asset portfolio, the firm stated.
Her appointment comes on the back of strong momentum for Resolution Life in the last 12 months having recently appointed Moses Ojeisekhoba as President, signed partnerships with Nippon Life and Blackstone as part of the $3bn equity capital raise, completed an inaugural $500 million Tier 2 listed debt issuance, closed three reinsurance transactions and acquired Suncorp’s New Zealand life insurance company, Asteron Life.
Her appointment comes on the back of strong momentum for Resolution Life over the past year, with the company recently appointing Moses Ojeisekhoba as President and forming partnerships with Nippon Life and Blackstone as part of a $3 billion equity capital raise.
During this time, Resolution Life also completed an inaugural $500 million Tier 2 listed debt issuance, finalised three reinsurance transactions, and acquired Asteron Life, Suncorp’s life insurance company in New Zealand.
