Ryan Specialty hires reinsurance veteran

Ryan Specialty Holding Inc. named Sean Ryan executive vice president at Ryan Re Underwriting Managers, its managing general agent for property/casualty treaty reinsurance.

New York-based Mr. Ryan will lead Ryan Re’s strategic business development, the company said in a statement.

Most recently, he was deputy CEO of U.S. reinsurance at brokerage BMS Group Ltd. Before BMS, he founded and was president of Trean Intermediaries, which BMS bought in 2021.

In addition, Ryan Specialty said it has hired Chris Newby to succeed the retiring Carin Verhagen as general counsel of Ryan Specialty International.

London-based Mr. Newby was previously general counsel for American International Group Inc.’s U.K. and EMEA operations.
