Safety National expands leadership team with key promotions

Safety National Casualty Corporation, a specialty provider of insurance and reinsurance, has expanded its leadership team with several key management promotions, all effective April 1st, 2025.
Mark Walls has been named Corporate Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Walls has been with Safety National for over 25 years in various senior roles, most recently serving as Vice President of Client Engagement.
In his new role, Walls will lead the Marketing and Communications Department, overseeing advertising, communications, marketing, thought leadership, conference engagement, events, and sponsorships to elevate the Safety National brand.
Dan Berns, formerly Vice President of Account Services, has been promoted to Corporate Senior Vice President of Operations. He will provide senior leadership to the Account Services Department and oversight of the Insurance Compliance Department.
Berns has been with Safety National for 11 years. Before that, he spent nearly a decade at U.S. Bank, focusing on technology and operations, including customer experience, process improvement, and risk and compliance.
Steve Kappel has been promoted to Corporate Senior Vice President of Information Technology and will continue serving as Chief Information Officer. In this role, he will lead the Information Technology Department.
Kappel has been with Safety National for 11 years, most recently as Vice President and Chief Information Officer.
Amy Schwent has been named President and General Counsel. She will lead the Legal Department and serve as the company’s top internal legal advisor.
Schwent joined Safety National five years ago as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel.
An experienced attorney in both private practice and in-house roles, she has a strong background in contract review and negotiation, complex litigation, insurance coverage, and regulatory compliance.
