The owner of the container ship Dali and the vessel’s management company jointly filed a petition Monday to limit their liability for the collision that caused the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore to $43.6 million.
Singapore-based Grace Ocean Private Ltd., the Dali’s owner, and Synergy Marine PTE Ltd. said in the petition, filed in federal court in Baltimore, that the vessel has an estimated value of $42.5 million with $1.17 million of pending freight onboard.
Under the Limitation of Liability Act of 1851, the companies can attempt to limit their liability for damage arising from the March 26 collision and bridge collapse that resulted in the deaths of at least two construction workers to the value of the vessel and the freight onboard. Four construction workers who were working on the bridge at the time of its collapse are still missing but presumed dead.
The companies said in the filing that the estimated repair costs for the Dali are at least $28 million and that salvage costs are roughly $19.5 million.
Representatives for the parties did not respond to requests for comment.
