Sompo appoints new Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific

Sompo, a global provider of commercial and consumer property and casualty re/insurance, has appointed Maya Dongyoung Lee as Chief Operating Officer (COO), Asia Pacific (APAC), effective October 16, 2024.
She will report to Daniel Englberger, COO, Sompo International Holdings and Kenneth Reilly, Chief Executive Officer, Insurance, APAC.
She will also join the APAC executive team and will be based in Singapore.
In her new role, she will hold responsibility for leading Sompo’s APAC Operations, including operational excellence and resilience, transformation and project management, as well as building its operational footprint across APAC, in addition to developing talent and capabilities across the region.
Addressing Lee’s appointment, Englberger said: “Maya is an outstanding hire for Sompo. Her exceptional track record for leading organizational change at several global businesses makes her perfectly placed to develop and execute the next stage of the operations and transformation strategy in our APAC region.”
Reilly, also commented: “I am excited to welcome Maya to our APAC leadership team. She brings with her a wealth of global experience both from a consulting and insurance industry perspective. I am confident Maya will drive operational effectiveness and excellence, as well as process architecture governance across our entire APAC business.”
Lee joins Sompo from Manulife Philippines, where she most recently served as COO.
Prior to Manulife, Lee spent several years at PwC, where she most recently held the role of Consulting Director of PwC Hong Kong and Mainland China.
In addition, Lee previously spent a few years working at MetLife, where she served as Lead Business Process Architect of MetLife Japan. During her time serving in this role, she was responsible for key transformation projects in operations as a Lead Business Analyst to design future state process and operating model in alignment with Japan and global priorities.
