Swiss Re CEO Andreas Berger joins IDF Steering Committee

The Insurance Development Forum (IDF), a public-private partnership led by the re/insurance industry and supported by the UN, has welcomed Andreas Berger, Group CEO of Swiss Re, as the newest member of its Steering Committee.

Swiss Re has been at the forefront of the IDF’s innovative efforts, leveraging its extensive expertise to address global insurance protection gaps.

In a recent LinkedIn post, the IDF stated, “Accountable for the overall strategy and direction of the IDF, invited industry leaders lead the Steering Committee, together with UN agency leaders, international institutions and others.

“We are looking forward to Andreas’ input and guidance as we pursue our commitment to provoking systemic change and increasing resilience for the public good.”

Berger brings over three decades of experience in the insurance and financial risk management sectors to this new role.

He was recently appointed Group CEO of Swiss Re in April 2024, succeeding Christian Mumenthaler. Previously, Berger served as CEO Corporate Solutions and was a Member of the Swiss Re Group Executive Committee.

For the past two years, he has also served as Chairman of the International Insurance Society.

Before that, he was a Member of the Board of Management at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty for over seven years.
