Texas governor appoints first female comp commissioner

Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday appointed Cassie Brown as commissioner of Workers’ Compensation at the Texas Department of Insurance, the first female to hold this role.

Ms. Brown is deputy commissioner for regulatory policy at the Texas Department of Insurance, where she has served since 2011, according to an announcement on the governor’s website. She replaces Ryan Brannon, who left his post in May. Ms. Brown will hold her position until February 2019, according to the announcement.

Previously, Ms. Brown served as a policy adviser to Gov. Rick Perry. Ms. Brown received a B.A. in political science from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, and attended the governor’s executive development program at the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs.
