Texas Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Cassie Brown commissioner of insurance on Monday, filling a post that has been unoccupied for over a year.
Ms. Brown has worked in public service and insurance for over 20 years. Most recently, Ms. Brown has served as the commissioner of workers compensation since June 2018. Previously, Ms. Brown was deputy commissioner for regulatory policy at the Texas Department of Insurance, following her role as a policy adviser to Gov. Rick Perry.
Pending confirmation by the state Senate, Ms. Brown’s term would go through Feb. 1, 2023. Ms. Brown would succeed former Texas Insurance Commissioner Kent Sullivan, who resigned in September 2020.
