The Clear Group appoints Swiss Re’s Simon Smith as COO

Insurance broker The Clear Group has announced the appointment of Simon Smith as Group Chief Operating Officer.

In his new role, Smith will oversee Operations, IT and Data, Integrations, Claims, and Facilities and Procurement. He will collaborate closely with business leaders to ensure Clear continues to deliver exceptional value to its customers and stakeholders, while advancing its strategic initiatives.

Smith succeeds Phil Williams, who was appointed Group Chief Commercial Officer and Retail MD of Clear Insurance Management Ltd in November 2024. Smith will be part of the executive board, working to achieve the company’s strategic goals.

Smith joins Clear from Swiss Re, where he served as Managing Director (Group Technology/Operations/Efficiency) for the past four years.

Previously, he was Group COO at MS&AD Insurance Group and held several key leadership roles, including 10 years at Willis Towers Watson and 12 years at GE Capital.
