TIH announces leadership transition as Dave Obenauer becomes CEO

TIH, a US insurance brokerage, announced that its President, Dave Obenauer, will step into the role as Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2025, with current CEO John Howard transitioning to Vice Chair.
Obenauer, who has been with TIH since 2007 following the acquisition of a predecessor company, brings over 35 years of experience in the insurance industry.
“Dave is a trusted partner, a thought leader in our industry, and a close confidant and friend,” added Howard. “I have complete confidence and respect for him as he embarks on his new journey leading our company forward.”
As President, Obenauer has played a key role in the company’s growth by emphasising strategic planning, effective execution, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
In his new role as Vice Chair, Howard will remain a member of TIH’s Board of Managers, continue as an investor in the company, and stay involved in guiding its future growth. He will also continue serving on several industry boards and committees.
Obenauer commented: “I am thrilled at the opportunity to assume the CEO position at TIH starting next year – and moving forward with the insurance-focused strategy we have been executing since becoming fully independent in May. It is a great honor to follow John in leading TIH.”
Obenauer earned his MBA from Wharton and graduated with honours from Wake Forest University with a bachelor’s degree. He will continue to be based at TIH’s headquarters in Charlotte.
