Travelers Europe appoints Mark Clifford as Active Underwriter

Travelers Europe, a division of The Travelers Companies Inc., has appointed Mark Clifford as the Active Underwriter for Syndicate 5000 at Lloyd’s and Vice President of Business Insurance (BI) Specialty.

Clifford will be part of the Europe Operating Committee and report to Mike Lawton, Vice President of BI Europe and Chief Commercial Officer.

In his new role, he will oversee Travelers Europe’s specialty business, shape the future of the portfolio, implement profitable underwriting and growth strategies, and enhance the company’s market presence.

Clifford has been with Travelers since 2005, starting as a Deputy Underwriter for Ports and Terminals. Over the years, he has expanded his responsibilities and was named Assistant Vice President of Marine in 2021.

Matthew Wilson, CEO of Travelers Europe, expressed enthusiasm for Clifford’s appointment, stating, “For almost 20 years, Mark has been an invaluable asset to Travelers. He is a proven leader with enormous depth and breadth of experience and a distinguished track record of driving growth.
